Leadership Horizons Health & Human Services Day Begins at Fleming County Hospital
The
2007-2008 Leadership Horizons class had a fun-filled agenda for their
monthly session, which took place in early January. The day was planned to
focus on health and human services within the Buffalo Trace District. The
day began at Fleming County Hospital where the diverse group of community
leaders were treated to a wonderful breakfast and an enlightening discussion
by hospital interim CEO, Louis Bremer. A hospital tour was also provided
highlighting their advanced diagnostic imaging, including the 16-slice CT
Scanner, their medication distribution program ensuring top patient care,
and plans for their new hospital, which plans to be opened in August 2008.
Next, the Leadership Horizons team traveled back to Maysville to visit the Comprehend Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) which serves as an interventional, short term program for children. Jeff Drury, Ph.D., and staff provided statistics of the youth population that they care for, the history of the CSU, and a tour of the home-like setting explaining how they operate the facility on a daily basis. The eventful day then moved onto the Women’s Crisis Center (WCC) whom provided an in-depth tour of their facility. Leadership Horizon participants were impressed by the number of lives touched by the WCC; it was evident what an impact the center has on those that utilize the facility.
The day continued with a visit to Meadowview Regional Medical Center (MRMC) where they enjoyed an interactive discussion with Deb Weber, LCSW/DCSW. She provided insight into how to control stress with a lecture entitled, "How To Keep Dancing When Your Shoes Are Too Tight". MRMC then provided lunch with discussion on upcoming plans for their hospital, new physicians coming on board, and were glad to answer any healthcare questions the group had.
Later in the day, the group continued with its agenda to visit and tour other health and human related services in the Buffalo Trace area by visiting the new Dialysis clinic, Davita, and the Maysville Cancer Treatment Center. The day concluded with a visit and tour at the administrative building of Hospice of Hope. During this tour they were treated to full body massages and hand wax treatments, as well as a general overview of the end-of-life services provided by Hospice of Hope who is celebrating their 20th Anniversary in 2008.
Leadership Horizons would like to thank all involved with making the Health & Human Services session a success. Co-Sponsors for the day included Shari Stafford with the Women’s Crisis Center; Pam Tribby, Wanda Paul, Michael Parker with Hospice of Hope; Robin Walton, Joyce Fidler with Fleming County Hospital, Tracy McGuire with PrimaryPlus, and Caroline Ullery with Buffalo Trace Area Agency on Aging.
