Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley is a recipient of the Veterans of Foreign Wars grant for a fourth straight year. Hospice of Hope Ohio Valley will work in conjunction with Hope HomeCare, a private duty service owned and operated by Hospice of Hope, to provide caregivers relief to veteran patients residing in Adams, Brown, Clermont, Highland, and Pike Counties. This service can be used for transportation of the patient to a doctor’s appointment, respite services in the home (caregiver relief) or assistance with household duties.
Ohio veteran caregivers deserve our gratitude and respect for compassionately caring for their loved ones, friends and neighbors. They make noble sacrifices, help others remain in their own homes and play an increasingly important role in the state’s health care system. According to a recent survey conducted for the National Alliance for Caregiving and AARP, 1.8 million adults or 21% of Ohio’s adult population-provide unpaid care to a relative or friend who is 18 or older. One in five of those caregivers say they provide 40 hours or more of care per week and three out of five care for their loved one in addition to their “regular” employment.
